Potential and pitfalls of 1.5T MRI imaging for target volume definition in ocular proton therapy

چکیده

IntroductionOcular proton therapy (OPT) for the treatment of uveal melanoma has a long and remarkably successful history. This is despite that, majority patients treated, definition eye anatomy based on simplified geometrical model embedded in planning system EyePlan. In this study, differences anatomical tumor structures from EyePlan, those 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are assessed.Materials methodsThirty-three treated with OPT at our institution were subject to MRI. The target volumes manually delineated images by two radiation oncologists. resulting geometrically compared clinical standard. addition, dosimetric impact using different models evaluated.ResultsTwo (6%) presented lesions too small be visible Target identified MRI scans average smaller than EyePlan discrepancies arising mostly base. Clip-to-tumor base distances measured exhibited higher discrepancy ophthalmological measurements For 53% cases, plans optimized only, failed achieve sufficient coverage volumes.DiscussionThe analysis shown that might more susceptible misses flat extension volume current Thus, proper integration ancillary modalities, leading better characterization full lesion, required.

The Role of MRSI in Target Volume Definition for Radiation Therapy of Prostate Cancer

Introduction: Recently, magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI), as a functional imaging method, has been used for clinical target volume definition. In this study, we used this method to define the target volume in prostate radiotherapy. Material and Method: In this study, we used images of 20 prostate cancer cases. MRSI and MRI images were fused with CT images. Then, treatment plannin...

MRI and CT imaging for preoperative target volume delineation in breast-conserving therapy

BACKGROUND Accurate tumor bed delineation after breast-conserving surgery is important. However, consistency among observers on standard postoperative radiotherapy planning CT is low and volumes can be large due to seroma formation. A preoperative delineation of the tumor might be more consistent. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the consistency of preoperative target volum...

Consider potential of gold nanoparticles with proton therapy compared with KV and MEV X-ray therapy.

Introduction: Many study shown the effectiveness dose enhancement with gold nanoparticles (GNPs), especially with low-energy x-rays. Recently, proton beam radiation therapy (PBRT) has attention as a treatment for tumors. The advantage in PBRT, which releases high dose at the controllable Bragg peak position that localized for Au target and the released dose increased in depth....
